Brisbane North PHN recently held a recruitment event to support the workforce recruitment needs of the healthy@home consortium members. The event concept was in response to discussions raised during the regular healthy@home meetings, where members spoke of the difficulty in finding and attracting suitable employees.
Held in Kedron on the 25 October, the event was an important way for aged care providers to build and foster relationships with potential candidates.
Julie Morrow from Brisbane North PHN said the recruitment event was a wonderful opportunity to introduce candidates to the aged care sector.
“It also provided an opportunity for consortium members to further build relationships with employment and registered training organisations.”
Eleven providers from the healthy@home consortium attended the event, with each provider delivering a three minute ‘elevator pitch’ to candidates. Service providers spoke of the best aspects of their organisation and why a career with them was an appealing one.
Informal ‘speed introductions’ were also held between candidates and service providers, which gave providers five minutes to get to know candidates before deciding if they would follow up after the event to organise a formal interview.

Attendees also heard from Chloe Owen, a support worker ambassador, who spoke about her experience working in community aged care and what it meant to her.
Consumer ambassador, Joanne Cheah, spoke about the respite day centre she attends and why this support was so meaningful in her life.
Overall, the event was a fun and successful day for all who attended. Results from a post-event survey identified that candidates found the event to be highly beneficial, with many finding new employment following the event.
The day provided an excellent opportunity for healthy@home consortium members to better understand the employment and training sector and start to build relationships with those organisations. There were many learnings from the day that will help to engage candidates, who are wishing to start a career in the community aged care sector, at future recruitment events.
The next recruitment event is planned to take place in early 2022.
Great idea. Here’s hoping it boosts recruitment.
